Khadya Sathi Scheme

The state government of West Bengal has fixed 20 February 2017 to receive the application forms of Khadya Saathi Scheme. Old ration cards will remain valid but after March 1 it can only be used for buying kerosene but not for food grains.

Under the Khadya Sathi Scheme, 7 crore 49 lakh people, that is, almost 80% of the State’s population, would get rice at Rs 2 per kg each. A family can get a maximum of food grains per month at subsidized rates as follows-.

Recipients would include 33 lakh people of the Jangalmahal region, 12 lakh drought-affected people of Purulia district, 11.24 people, including tea garden workers and their families, 3.11 lakh Cyclone Aila-affected people, 3569 people of Singur who had lost their land, 1700 homeless people of Kolkata and the people living in the Hills region of Darjeeling under Khadya Sathi Scheme.

The government was against depriving anyone of food security and has allowed new application for Khadya Sathi digital card for those who intend to join the scheme, state Food Minister Jyotipriya Mallick said.

Retaining validity of old ration cards, West Bengal government today announced fresh application for Khadya Sathi Scheme (food security) digital card till February 20. The state government of West Bengal approved the validity of the old ration card till 1 March 2017.
